The Dangers of Heart Problems in Women
Heart problems in women are on the rise, particularly in younger generations. This is incredibly dangerous, because the symptoms of heart problems in women are very different from those in men, making detection more difficult. In fact, more women die each year from heart disease than men. The differences begin with the warning signs.
Women
Women's symptoms of heart attack may be much different than men's. When all of the symptoms are present, women should definitely seek medical help. Women are less likely to experience chest pain. Post menopausal women are especially vulnerable to heart disease due to the drop in hormone estrogen levels.
A new study has found surprising evidence of delays in getting women with heart trouble to the hospital. In fact, heart disease is the #1 killer of women, and more women die each year from heart disease than men. The tragic part however is, that in women, heart disease is most often a silent killer. This is why intensive screening for cardiac risk is so important for women. Women tend to have higher levels of fibrinogen than men and it is more of a risk factor for women. Therefore women need to be sure that, in addition to cholesterol and triglyceride, they are screened for four other coronary risk factors: elevated lipoprotein, increased fibrinogen, elevated homocysteine, and decreased serum magnesium.
